Good News from Dr. C!

Mia had her annual cardiology appointment this morning at Children's Hospital. I have to admit that I've been dreading it all week. Last year's visit was still fresh in my mind and it was not a pleasant experience. Getting an EKG is not a lengthy procedure, but we had a very long wait in the waiting room and then a much longer wait in the office. The wait was filled with many, many tears from a two-year old who wanted nothing to do with being there. But, I'm happy to report that Mia was a champ this morning. She didn't cry once and although I needed to coax her a bit into putting the EKG stickers on, she finally obliged and laid back on my lap and relaxed. Then her favorite Dr. C came in to give us the good news. Mia's ASD (hole between the heart's upper chambers) has closed!! WOO HOO!! Mia was a Waiting Child and we knew about her VSD (hole between the heart's lower chambers) before we adopted her, but we found out about the ASD after her first ultrasound was done here at home. I'm so happy that one of her two openings has closed on their own. Mia's cardiologist doesn't have any concerns about the VSD and still believes she may never require surgery to close it. Another WOO HOO!! And now I'm kicking myself for wasting precious energy dreading the appointment this morning. It turned out to be a great one! Thank you, God!!

A flashback to last year's appointment... Mia was NOT a happy camper.

And much different today...
"Hey, look Mom. No cry."

"Cool, huh?"

"I just love my Doctor C."

Mia was sick while we were in China (bronchitus) and was poked and prodded by numerous Dr.'s there, and several more when we returned home. Whenever anyone wanted to listen to her heart, she would protest VERY loudly. But not Dr. C. From Day One, he was able to listen to her heart and she didn't make a peep. I call him her "baby whisperer." I don't know if it's because he's Asian or something else that makes her feel so comfortable around him, but she definitely likes this guy. He walked in the door today and she immediately lifted up her sweater so he could hear her heart - even without him asking. I was so proud of my big girl today.

Oh that is wonderful news! My Mia was a WC (VSD) - her hole was the size of a nickel from her China reports and now it is the size of a pin hole! We have her next appt next month...I am dreading it also - she has a deep fear of doctors, doctors offices, etc. I hope I am pleasantly surprised as your were! Your Mia is precious and again, congratulations!!

Michelle!!

Wooohooo! Praise God! I know that feeling of hearing that the "hole" has closed up! Amanda was born with a VSD. It was closed by Mia's age.

Dr. C looks like such a gentle man. And I gotta say, that last picture is worthy of being on the cover of The American Journal of Medicine. :)

Hugs,

Ohilda

Michelle, What wonderful new for you guys!! Sorry I didn't know about the appt - or I would have added it to my daily prayers for your family to be "complete" (although I do remember Leila's comment on the "next one from Russia"!) Thanks for the comment on my blog - I still love going to see what Leslie did!

God Bless and wonderful weekend wishes to you all! Ashley

I did not know that Mia was a heart baby...so is my Ella! She has a repaired VSD...it was repaired in China. She just had her annual check-up about a month ago and it went MUCH better than last year's. But not so well that I could have let go of her hand and
taken a picture. : )

Glad to hear Mia had a great check-up!

Enjoy your week-end!!!!

So happy you had a good report!! Also thrilled that she was good for her appointment. It is so stressful when they are upset...I find a long wait usually causes that. Love all the pics : )

Oh, and on the doctor thing..I think he just has something special as obviously her doctors in China were Asian..or maybe it is just that she is now so safe and secure after being home with her Mama and Daddy : )
