Ice, Ice Baby

In the midst of the snowstorm outside, we decided to take the girls ice skating. After playing a new Wii ice skating game this morning, they started asking yet again, "When are you going to take us to go real ice skating, mommy?" It is something Kara has been asking for since before Christmas and I have been postponing for as long as I could. One reason is that finding free time to go skate is rare and another... because I am not an ice skater. I don't know why, but that is just one thing I have never learned to do. I can roller skate just fine. Ice skate - no way.

Well, I called my husband, told him our new plans and we headed to a local ice rink this afternoon. I had good intentions of trying to skate myself, but I put on my skates and made it all of one foot inside the doorway of the rink on wobbly legs and chickened out, big time. Fortunately, my wonderful hubby was there to do the parental "on the rink" duties while I stood outside and watched with much enjoyment. The girls were so much fun to watch. Kara was a natural and she was so helpful with both of her sisters. Mia was a speedster along the outer rails of the rink and Leila picked it up and was doing quite well, too. Now, they all had their fair share of falls, too, but they quickly got back up with a smile on their face and tried again. I have so much to learn from them!

They started out without helmuts - until Mia had a fall and nearly hit her head hard on the ice. Of course, this mama ran quickly to grab the nearest helmuts.

The girls had a blast and can't wait to go ice skating again. I guess it's about time I learn.

The girls look great on the ice. I am not an ice skater either and would be happy taking pictures and watching from the sidelines.

The girls look like they had a great time. I am like you , I can roller skate like a champ but my ankles are to weak to ice skate.

LOVE the title...and you really captured the moments. Kids have no fear and a lower center of gravity (that's what I tell myself of course, cause I'm not fond of ice skating ~ too scared). ;)

My 21 year old son never ice skated until last month. But he was a really good roller skater and had no problem on the ice. I bet you would have done just fine too! ;)

Love the photos -- the sepia tones with just a touch of pink are so pretty! And speaking of pink, I really love your blog banner pic! The kids are beautiful!

I don't know how to ice skate either. Well... technically I do, but I skate about as well as I bowl. Badly. Heh.

Love how tentative they looked on the ice. It's fun to see confidence build.
