We arrived safely in Beijing yesterday, early afternoon. Yesterday morning, I came down with an infection and was out the entire afternoon, but thankfully the antibiotic kicked in quickly and I am almost good as new today!! Nolan and the girls swam at the hotel, went out for dinner and then came back and got me and we took Kara to the big department store next door to buy some tennis shoes. Our girl got her first pair of Adidas and I am thankful with all the walking that we have ahead of us that she will not have to wear those flip flops we brought her. And BTW, Leila's feet are a size BIGGER than Kara's! Kara is a 3.5, Leila is a 4.5. I said she is a petite little thing.
We went to the Summer Palace and Temple of Heaven this morning. We took a motor boat around the lake at the Summer Palace and both girls got a chance to drive. Probably the highlight of the morning for them.
Leila and Kara walk around holding hands and get the attention of rock stars. It is very crowded here, but to us, it is as if everyone stops in their tracks to watch the two. "Are they twins? Are they sisters? Who is older? Is this their Mom and Dad?" (Let me just remind you that Leila is the one who requested that the two of them dress alike, but Kara seems to like it as well.) So many questions are asked over and over again, but Kara just takes every one of them in stride. Apparently, she doesn't mind all the questions because she keeps holding her sister's hand. Leila has had several people stop and ask if they could take pictures with her. Our typically shy Leila is great with posing with strangers. :)
Tonight, we go to a Kung Fu show after dinner. The girls are in serious need of a nap, but instead are dancing around their room next door and are giggling up a storm. :)
