What I've Been Up To...

I feel like blogging has just been one of those things I haven't been able to get to recently. My own family photos are piling up, my online family scrapbook is getting behind and I miss getting around to visit my friends. I have been trying to log onto Facebook a bit more to compensate, but it's just not the same. But, I do have a good excuse! At least I think I do.

You may recall that I announced at the beginning of September that I decided to leave my corporate job of 16 years. I loved my job and I loved the people I worked with, but even with moving to part-time and working from home, my meeting schedules, constant deadlines and sometimes evening events were making it difficult to juggle work and my family well. So, when my family leave from Kara's adoption was over, I made the difficult decision not to return. But it didn't take me long to realize that I would not be completely happy unless I was doing something to fulfill that creative desire within me. (My former role had been in marketing, communication and graphic design.) And as someone who has worked since I was 14, even a small paycheck with my name on it was an added bonus. So, at the end of October, I decided to launch a small photography and digital design business. The photography side of things has been keeping me so busy thus far that I haven't had time to focus on the digital design side of things, but hopefully, I'll get there in 2010.

I don't claim to know everything there is to know about photography, but I continue to learn everyday and I feel a rush that I cannot explain when I am behind the camera working with my clients. This truly is a dream job for me. And while this new venture does take some time away from my family, I view it very differently from my old job since I now set my own schedule. Plus, Leila and Kara take turns coming with me on my shoots, which ends up being good one-on-one time for us. And I just have to add how AMAZINGLY supportive my husband has been with this. When I begin to doubt myself, he is my biggest cheerleader. (Thank you so much, honey!!!)

I have been posting some of my favorite images on Facebook, but I just hit the publish button tonight on my new photography blog. I hope you'll pop over and see what's been keeping me busy. And if you follow me here, I hope you'll follow me over there, too!

OK my friend - but i must just say you are so talented!! I see you passion and vision in each and every photo!!!! I hope to have a few pictures of Evan and my big day up on my blog soon, but then I think I am going to "retire" from blogging - just too much on my plate.

However, I will always stop by to see you and your beautiful family!!!

Blessings and Hugs, Ashley
